Mariupol is the second most populous city in Donetsk region.
Railway, highways, air and sea links connect Mariupol with the regional centre and many other big cities inland and abroad.

Mariupol industrial potential is diverse. Metallurgy, mechanical engineering, metalworking, chemical and food industry are the most dynamically developing sectors.

Two largest metallurgical plants of this country work in the city. They are "Illych Iron & Steel Works" JSC and "Azovstal Iron & Steel Works" JSC and also the leading plant of mechanical engineering branch "Azovmash" JSC which are the trademark not only of Donbass but of the whole Ukraine as well.

A great role in the economic complex of the city plays the Sea of Azov, by means of which the maritime communication of Donbass with other regions of the country and foreign countries are realized. Mariupol commercial seaport is one of the four largest seaports of Ukraine and the most fitted seaport of the Sea of Azov with great perspectives of further development.
